Headache Sufferers In Raleigh Find Relief With Chiropractic Care

The pressure-cooker of modern life certainly creates a lot of stress, and a byproduct of that is an epidemic of headaches. Headaches vary in their characteristics, but most can be classified under the headings of tension, migraine or cluster. Here is a description of the main headache types and how a Raleigh chiropractic office may be able to offer relief.

Tension (aka stress) headaches are the most common form, and can last from an hour or so to several days. They are often described as a band of pain around the head or a dull ache on one or both sides of the head. They are often the result of muscular tension in the neck caused by stress or bad posture.

Migraines are the most severe form of headache and affect something over 20 million people in the United States. Deeply unpleasant, they tend to take the form of an intense, throbbing pain and can be accompanied by nausea. As with tension headaches, they can last for an hour or so, or they can linger for days.

Cluster headaches by contrast are usually very short-lived, but they do also tend to be very painful. They arise (as the name indicates) in clusters of one or more headaches each day, over a number of days. They tend to me more common in men than women, and also tend to occur at night time.

Most headache sufferers benefit from neck and/or spinal manipulation. This corrects the shape of the neck and spine and releases muscular tension, which is a major contributing factor for most headaches. Chiropractors will usually perform this technique as part of a care plan that may involve other interventions.

As part of their holistic ethos, chiropractors like to examine the broader lifestyle of their patients. In the case of headache, they will look for any triggering or aggravating factors that may be at work (e. G. Foods, allergens, toxins etc). They may also offer suggestions with regard to things like workstation ergonomics, good posture and stress relief techniques (such as deep breathing).
